Decent work, security and dignity for labour can uplift Nepali society : Janak Singh Ukheda
The Acting chief of Labour and Employment Office Kailali Mr Janak Singh Ukheda discussed with Local body chiefs, elected representatives and officials about the role that local bodies could play in effective enforcement of Labor Act , 2017.
Mr. Janak Singh Ukheda said, the idea of development would be flawed if human labor is not respected. Only decent jobs can ensure sustainable economic development and well being. It is important that work should deliver fair income, workplace security and social protection, and allow flexibility of working arrangements and hours.

Sustainable development also recognizes the importance of sustained economic growth and high levels of economic productivity for the creation of well-paid quality jobs, as well as resource efficiency in consumption and production. It calls for opportunities for full employment and decent work for all alongside the eradication of forced labour, human trafficking and child labour, and the promotion of labour rights and safe and secure working environments said, Mr. Janak singh Ukheda .
Mr Ukheda further stressed, effective enforcement of the Labor Act will ensure improvement of labor market, safety and social security of human resource. This will enhance productivity thereby, ensuring sustainable economic development. Mr Ukheda said, labor in the unorganized sector do not enter into any written contracts as a result they are exploited.

Mr Ukheda also urged local bodies to monitor if women are being paid less than men for the same work. He touched upon various provisions of Act including prohibition on employing in forced labour, prohibition on discrimination: prohibition on discrimination in remuneration for equal work, occupational safety and health and others.
Interacting with participants chief of Bardagoriya Gaaupalaika Mr Baliram Dagaura said, Our Palika is very much concerned about ensuring decent work for labour we are committed to developing our Palika in line with SDG targets and indicators .
The Deputy chief of Janaki Palika Ms. Uma Mahato said , the Palika will ensure no woman is paid less than men for the same work. Justice is at the core of our work she said.

Speaking n the occasion president of Campaign for Promotion of Community Paralegalism In Nepal, Mr Prabhakar Bagchand said, our villages have to be the unit of sustainable development . If we pursue development work in villages with the targets of SDGs in mind we can develop our villages as model SDG villages.
The participants were welcomed Mr Raj Kumar Jairu Secretary of CPCPN. The program was facilitated by paralegals, Karishma Chaudhary and Dewanti Bakhariya.
