Minister of Social Development Krishna  Raj Subedi inaugurated the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) model  Village initiative in Dhangadhi of Far west Nepal today.

Interacting with community people Minister Krishna Raj Subedi said, the ambition of SDG can fructify only if people are activitly enagaged. An active citizenry is necessary for programs and policies to be implemented in letter and spirit. I came to know that women paralegals are doing important work by empowering the community. Legal empowerment through paralegal is vital for countries to achieve targets of SDG. I thank the team of Campaign for Promotion of Community Paralegalism in Nepal for coming with such an innovative initiative.

Prabhakar Bagchand President of Campaign for Promotion of Community Paralegalism in Nepal ( CPCPN) ,  said, ward number nine Gauripur will be developed as a model village so that   social, economic, political, cultural, administrative activities  exist in a well-balanced system. We will develop the village with sustainable development agenda as a guiding  document.  A startegy has been developed to align the activities to be  implemented within a period of one year  with SDG targets. Peace , Justice and Strong Institutions  will be the founadtion of all the activities we undertake.

Rama Bhattarai of CPCPN  shared  the strategy and action plan  with the community people. Speaking on the occasion she said, empowered women have the potential  to bring positive change in their homes and communities. Empowerment of community  in the model SDG village will be done by women community Paralegals. We  will engage government agencies , Parliamentarians ,  private sector , donor agencies and non-resident Nepalese  in implementing various activities in the village.

Paralegal Rita parki said , legal Empowerment has given us the confidence to deal with problems of life. Problems of individuals are no longer problems of individual alone, we will collectivly deal with them. I request the honorable minister to support us in building a ‘ Women’s Chautari For  Empowerment” under  “ Peepal tree “  so that we can  organize meetings and conduct cultural programs.

The program was jointly facilitated  by Dinesh Nepali and Rajkumar Jairu of CPCPN.

The community people have responded  enthusiatically to the SDG village inititive. Many participants  said,  SDG village can be  pioneering approach in rural development.
