Safer Internet for women and children – a week long campaign kicks off in Far West Nepal
Campaign for Promotion of Community Paralegalism in Nepal ( CPCPN) is celebrating Interanational Women’s Day by organizing a week long campaign. The theme of the campaign is “cyber paralegals for safer internet for women and children” .
President of CPCPN Prabhakar Bagchand , Secretary Dinesh Nepali and psycho-social counselor Rajkumar Jairu jointly flaged off the campaign. Various community outreach programs will be organized from 1st of March to 8th of March in Dhangadhi in Far West Nepal.

Speaking to cyber Paralegals and activists Prabhakar Bagchand said, the growing reach of the Internet and the rapid spread of information through mobile devices has presented new opportunities that could put some women and children at risk, so it’s important to be mindful of the dangers.
Mr Bagchand said, cyber crime is one of the fastest growing crimes. As a part of intergrated legal empowerment structure, Cyber Paralegals have been trained by CPCPN. The cyber Paralegal will raise awarenes on cyber laws including Electronic Transactions Act 2008 commonly known as Cyber crime law. The Paralegals will educate communities to make better and safe use of internet.

During the week long outreach program cyber Paralegals Krishna Nepali and Asmita Jairu will raise awareness about provisions of the cyber laws and contribute to protecting users online against cyber crimes. After the camapaign is over cyber Paralegals will continue educating their communities on cyber laws, ethics and etiquette for social media and internet use in general said, Mr Bagchand.

The initiative of CPCPN has been welcomed as there has been growing concern over the online exploitation of women and children. It is felt social media an effective tool in many aspect allows many illicit activities.With the popularity and use of social media many women folks have fallen pray to Internet abusers. It is essential that security measures be taken by individuals. Collaboration between Paralegals , civil society actors , government agencies and community people is essential to ensure safe internet for women and children.
